Join us in commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnamese Community in San Diego—a celebration of resilience, sacrifice, and the enduring spirit that has helped shape the identity and vibrancy of our city.

2025 marks 50 years since the end of the Vietnam War—a pivotal moment in history when the Fall of Saigon forced an estimated two million South Vietnamese to rushed into the open sea to escape from communist. That mass exodus gave rise to Vietnamese communities across the globe and led to the birth of Little Saigon enclaves worldwide—including here in San Diego.

This milestone is more than a remembrance—it’s a tribute to the extraordinary perseverance and cultural legacy of a people who turned loss into strength and exile into community.

Let us come together to reflect on this shared journey, honor the past, and embrace the future at a grand outdoor concert: “50 Years of the Diaspora Journey” – the sixth chapter in the Echoes of Vietnam: A Journey Carved in Exile series, proudly presented by Little Saigon San Diego.

Through the power of music and performance, this event will vividly retrace the Vietnamese diaspora’s path—from perilous beginnings at sea to the flourishing community we see today. It will honor the lives lost, recognize the sacrifices made, and celebrate the vital contributions of Vietnamese Americans to the cultural, social, and economic fabric of San Diego and beyond.

This grand outdoor concert is scheduled to be on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the City Heights Performance Annex, located in the heart of the vibrant City Heights community.

The event will begin with a powerful storytelling exhibition, showcasing 20 inspiring, real-life stories of everyday Vietnamese Americans—authentic voices that reflect the resilience, diversity, and spirit of San Diego’s Vietnamese community.

Families can enjoy a variety of fun and educational cultural activities designed to engage both children and adults in exploring and appreciating the richness of Vietnamese heritage.

As the sun sets, the celebration continues with electrifying live performances, bringing music, energy, and unity to a night that honors the past, celebrates the present, and looks ahead to the future.

Research Survey

Little Saigon SD and APAC of Hoover High School are collaborating on a research survey to gain insights into your experience with the sidewalks in the Little Saigon District, specifically the 6-block stretch of El Cajon Blvd. between Highland Ave and Euclid Ave. As part of our Little Saigon Revitalization Initiatives, we are undertaking a series of projects aimed at transforming public sidewalks and city streets into vibrant, welcoming spaces that enhance the overall walking experience. If you have walked through this stretch of sidewalks before, you have a unique perspective on the needs and experiences, and we need your help. We are eager to understand your experiences, perspectives, and opinions on the current state of the sidewalks and how we can improve your walking experience.  The survey will take 2-5 minutes to complete. Your responses are completely confidential. Thank you for your time!

Umbrella Trees

Next project on the Little Saigon Revitalization Initiatives is the Umbrella Tree with a mission to tagibilizing the intangible cultural assets that make up the identity, character, and customs of Little Saigon District. To do this, we aim to bring to life the inspirations stories and journeys of Vietnamese Americans immigrants that contributed to the identity, characters, and customs of the Little Saigon District. Approximately 20 unique stories will be engraved on 20 plaques, to be installed on 20 urban street planters, and will be placed within the 6-block stretch of the Little Saigon District of San Diego. The planter will feature an umbrella tree growing out of it. These planters with umbrella trees are currently being design by Tecture Design and Fabrication.
